Compact Tracked Carriers for Restricted Access Material Transport

Tracked carrier Melbourne equipment moving materials on a tight-access construction site

A tracked carrier is a compact, self-propelled machine that moves heavy loads horizontally across sites in Melbourne, Geelong, Bacchus Marsh, and Western Victoria, passing through narrow openings and over ground that wheeled equipment cannot cross. Most units are under a metre wide, run on rubber tracks, and carry between several hundred kilograms and a couple of tonnes.

They exist because lifting is only half the problem on a tight site. Getting the load from the truck to the lift point is often the harder part, and that is the job a tracked carrier does.

The Machine That Solves
the Other Half of the Job

Cranes lift. Carriers move. On most constrained sites, you need both, and the second one is usually the part nobody plans for. The typical scenario runs like this. A delivery arrives at the curb, the lift point is forty meters away through a side gate, down a path and around a corner, and the load weighs more than a crew should be carrying by hand. A forklift will not fit and will not cope with the surface. Everything stops. A tracked carrier drives straight through that route under its own power, carries the load on a flat deck or in a tipping body, and spreads its weight across rubber tracks so lawns, paving, decking and finished floors survive the trip. Electric models work indoors with no exhaust at all. Tell us the load, the distance, and the narrowest point on the route.

What Tracks Do That Wheels Cannot

Five capabilities explain why this machine exists:

Passes through narrow openings. Compact widths clear standard doorways, side gates, corridors and basement ramps without dismantling anything.

Low ground bearing pressure. Weight distributed across rubber tracks, protecting lawns, paving, decking, tiled floors and suspended slabs.

Climbs and descends gradients. Handles slopes, ramps and steps that stop trolleys, pallet jacks and wheeled barrows entirely.

Electric and emission-free operation. Battery and mains-powered units suitable for indoor work, occupied buildings and enclosed spaces.

Remote-controlled precision. Radio control lets the operator stand clear and position the load accurately in confined areas.

4T Tracked Carrier

Moves loads horizontally. The right machine when the problem is distance and access, not height. Carries material to where the lifting happens.

2.5T Tracked Carrier

Lifts loads vertically. The right machine when the load has to go up, over, or into position. Some models also travel with the load, but transport is not the primary function.

1.25T Tracked Carrier

Carries loose bulk material such as spoil, soil, sand and rubble in a tipping body. Built for earthworks volume rather than handling discrete items.

Plenty of jobs need a carrier and a crane together, and we supply both from the one booking. Work out the lifting side with the crane calculator, then send us the transport requirement as well.

Where TrackedCarriers Get Used

Glazing and Panel Delivery

Glass units, stone panels and facade sections moved from the delivery point to the installation position without manual handling risk.

Landscaping and Residential

Pavers, soil, turf, plants, retaining blocks and rock carried into rear yards through side gates too narrow for any wheeled machine.

Building Fit Out and Refurbishment

Materials, fixtures, joinery and equipment transported through occupied buildings, corridors and lift lobbies with electric units.

Industrial Maintenance and Shutdowns

Tools, spares, valves and components moved through operating plants and refineries where vehicle access is restricted.

Rail, Utilities and Civil Corridors

Sleepers, cable drums, pipe sections and equipment carried along easements, tracksides and confined civil corridors.

Demolition and Strip Out

Debris, fixtures and salvaged material removed from inside buildings where skips cannot be positioned close to the work.

We proudly support the construction, civil, commercial, residential and industrial construction sectors, along with infrastructure, mining, manufacturing, logistics and warehousing clients throughout Victoria. If your load is not listed here, give us a ring; chances are we have lifted one just like it.

What Comes With a Tracked Carrier?

Six things covered as part of the hire:

Route assessment first. Access widths, gradients, surfaces, corners and floor loadings checked before a machine is committed.

Operator or induction supplied. Wet hire with a trained operator, or machine familiarisation where your crew will run it.

Surface protection available. Track mats, ply and matting where finished floors and soft ground need covering.

Correct body configuration. Flat deck, tipping body or attachment selected for what is actually being moved.

Charging and power sorted. Electric unit charging requirements confirmed against available site power before delivery.

Float transport arranged. Delivery, positioning and collection built into the quote.

What is a tracked carrier?

A tracked carrier is a compact, self-propelled machine that transports heavy loads across ground on rubber tracks. It is designed for sites where access is too narrow, too soft, or too uneven for wheeled equipment, and where manual handling would be unsafe or impractical.

Moving materials horizontally on restricted sites. Common uses are glazing and panel delivery, landscaping supplies into rear yards, fit-out materials through occupied buildings, and equipment transport through industrial plants during maintenance.

Compact units in this class typically carry from several hundred kilograms up to around two tonnes on level ground. Capacity reduces on slopes, so we always confirm the rated figure against your actual route gradient.

Most compact carriers are under a meter wide, and the narrowest models fit through standard single doorways. Send us the tightest point on your access route with a photo, and we will confirm which unit fits.

Yes. Electric and battery-powered units produce no exhaust emissions and run quietly, which makes them suitable for occupied buildings, warehouses and enclosed spaces. Floor loading and headroom still need checking first.

A carrier moves discrete items such as panels, equipment and materials, usually on a flat deck. A tracked dumper carries loose bulk material such as soil and rubble in a tipping body. Some machines do both, but they are built around different jobs.

If the problem is getting the load to the work area, you need a carrier. If the load has to be lifted into position, you need a crane. Many tight access jobs need both, and we supply them together.

Wet hire with an operator is the standard arrangement. Dry hire can be arranged where your crew is trained and competent on the machine, subject to induction and site requirements.

Daily and weekly rates apply, with weekly hire working out significantly better on longer programs. Float transport from our Maddingley depot is quoted separately. Call 0457 000 637 for a figure against your job.

All Melbourne metro suburbs, with Maidstone, Werribee and Caroline Springs among the areas we attend most often, extending through Geelong, Bacchus Marsh, Melton and Ballarat. Regional work is arranged on request.

Carriers travel on a float from our depot at 25 Rowsley Station Rd, Maddingley VIC 3340, directly on the Western Freeway. Because these machines usually stay for the duration of a work package rather than a single day, transport applies once, and the unit remains available across the whole program.

Maidstone is dense inner west housing and older industrial stock, which means long carry distances from the street to the work. Townhouse builds, rear extensions and fit-outs in existing buildings all have material moving problems that a carrier solves without a crew hand-balling everything down a side path. Werribee runs to larger industrial and infrastructure sites where the buildings are big and vehicle access inside them is limited. Maintenance work, plant upgrades and warehouse fit-outs regularly need equipment moved internally, and electric carriers handle that without ventilation concerns. Caroline Springs and the Melton corridor are heavily residential, with landscaping and pool work generating steady demand. Pavers, soil, turf and retaining blocks into a rear yard through a single side gate is exactly the job this machine was built for. Our carriers also travel to Sunshine, Footscray, Yarraville, Laverton, Altona, Truganina, Derrimut, Point Cook, Taylors Lakes and Melton, plus Geelong, Bacchus Marsh, Ballan, Ballarat and regional Victoria.
