Access Equipment
Hire in Melbourne

EWPs, Scissor Lifts, Telehandlers and Spider Lifts

Access equipment covers the machines that get people and materials safely to height. Elevated work platforms, scissor lifts, boom lifts, spider lifts, telehandlers and all-terrain forklifts, hired with or without an operator across Melbourne and regional Victoria.

We come at this from the lifting side rather than the hire yard side, which shows up most on jobs where the access machine and a crane have to work together.

Access and Lifting
on the Same Job

A lot of work at height involves two jobs happening at once. In structural steel work, the crane lifts and holds the member while someone in an EWP safely makes the connection. Facade work, plant installation, roof work and maintenance often require the same setup. When the crane and access machine come from separate suppliers, delays can leave one machine waiting while charges continue. We supply both, schedule them for the same date and select the access machine based on where the crane and its outriggers will stand. We also provide access machines for maintenance, cleaning, installation, signage and other trades working at height. Tell us the work and the height, and we will match the right machine across Melbourne, Geelong, Bacchus Marsh and Western Victoria.

What We Hire

The fleet covers the main classes of access and material handling equipment.

Scissor lifts. Vertical access for indoor and outdoor work, in electric for finished floors and rough terrain versions with outriggers for uneven ground.

Boom lifts. Telescopic straight booms for reach and articulated knuckle booms for working around obstacles, in both electric and diesel.

Spider lifts. Tracked, compact and low ground pressure, for gardens, atriums, suspended slabs and access routes too narrow for a wheeled machine.

Telehandlers. Telescopic handlers for lifting and placing materials at height and distance on construction sites.

Rotating telehandlers. Roto machines that slew a full circle from a fixed position, covering work that sits between what a telehandler and a small crane can do.

All-terrain forklifts. Rough terrain material handling on unformed ground, mud, and slopes where a standard forklift cannot operate.

Vertical and mast lifts. Compact personnel lifts for maintenance work in confined indoor spaces.

Where Access Equipment Gets Used

Structural Steel and Construction

Connections, bolting, welding and installation at height, frequently alongside a crane holding the member in position.

Facade, Glazing and Cladding

Installation, sealing, replacement and repair work on building exteriors where reach over obstacles is required.

Building and Plant Maintenance

Lighting, services, ceilings, ductwork, roof work and general maintenance in occupied buildings and industrial facilities.

Material Handling on Site

Telehandlers and all-terrain forklifts placing materials at height and moving loads across unformed construction ground.

Tree Work and Property Maintenance

Spider lifts working over gardens and soft ground where a wheeled machine would damage the surface or fail to reach.

Signage, Events and Installation

Signage, banners, lighting rigs and temporary installations requiring safe, positioned access at height.

We proudly support the construction, civil, commercial, residential and industrial construction sectors, along with infrastructure, mining, manufacturing, logistics and warehousing clients throughout Victoria. What Comes With the Hire

Six things covered as part of every access hire:

Machine matched to the job. Selected on reach, ground conditions and access route rather than on what is free in the yard.

Delivery arranged. Transport to site and collection at the end of the hire arranged as part of the booking.

Compliance current. Machines maintained, inspected and supplied with current certification and log books.

Operator available. Wet hire with a ticketed operator, or dry hire where your crew holds the required license.

Cranes on the same booking. Where the job needs lifting as well as access, both are scheduled together rather than sourced separately.

Site requirements handled. Access assessment, ground suitability and site documentation sorted before delivery.

Working at height near powerlines? Call 0457 000 637 early, because exclusion zones apply to access machines exactly as they do to cranes, and a spotter may be required.

What are the types of access equipment?

The main classes are scissor lifts for vertical access, boom lifts for reach over and around obstacles, spider lifts for tight access and soft ground, telehandlers and rotating telehandlers for lifting materials at height, all-terrain forklifts for rough ground material handling, and vertical mast lifts for confined indoor work.

A telescopic handler is a machine with an extending boom that lifts and places loads at height and at distance, usually with forks fitted, though other attachments can be used. It combines the material handling of a forklift with reach that a forklift does not have.

A roto telehandler slews a full circle from a fixed position, so it can pick up and place without repositioning the machine. It covers work sitting between a standard telehandler and a small crane, and it is often the more practical choice on constrained sites.

Boom-type elevated work platforms with a boom length of eleven meters or more require a high-risk work license. Machines below that threshold are generally operated under an industry accreditation such as the EWPA Yellow Card, subject to site requirements. Confirm the requirement before hiring, because it decides whether you need wet or dry hire.

We deliver and collect as part of the hire. Access machines are transported rather than driven to site, and that transport is quoted with the machine.

Rates depend on the machine class and size, hire duration, and delivery distance. Weekly rates work out considerably better than daily on longer jobs. Call 0457 000 637 with the height and the job details for a figure.

Yes, provided your crew holds the required license or accreditation for that machine class. If they do not, we supply an operator. We verify license details before releasing a machine on dry hire.

That usually points to a spider lift. Tracked, compact enough to pass through standard openings, and spreading weight so lawns, paving, and suspended slabs are not damaged. Send us the narrowest point on the access route with a photo.

Yes, and it is the main reason clients use us for work at height. On structural and installation jobs, the crane holds the load while the access machine positions the person doing the work, and both come from one booking.

The same No Go Zone rules that apply to cranes apply to elevated work platforms and other mobile plant; where the machine will work within the specified distances, a registered spotter is required.

All Melbourne metro suburbs, with Maidstone, Werribee and Caroline Springs among the areas we attend most often, extending through Geelong, Bacchus Marsh, Melton and Ballarat, plus regional Victoria.

Machines are delivered from 25 Rowsley Station Rd, Maddingley VIC 3340 on the Western Freeway, which keeps delivery into the western suburbs and metro area straightforward, and makes Geelong and the regional corridor practical rather than an exception. Maidstone work is dominated by access constraints rather than height. Narrow blocks, tight side access and occupied buildings mean the question is usually which machine can physically get to the work, which is where spider lifts and compact machines earn their place.

Werribee runs to larger industrial and commercial sites. Warehouse maintenance, structural steel, plant work and material handling across unformed ground suit telehandlers, rough terrain machines and larger booms. Caroline Springs and the Melton corridor are building steadily in residential and commercial construction. Material handling at height, facade work and installation across build programs suit longer hires rather than single-day bookings. We also deliver access equipment to Sunshine, Footscray, Yarraville, Laverton, Altona, Truganina, Derrimut, Point Cook, Taylors Lakes and Melton, plus Geelong, Bacchus Marsh, Ballan, Ballarat and regional Victoria. Searching "EWP hire near me" or "access equipment hire Melbourne"? Working from the freeway corridor keeps delivery efficient across the western suburbs, the metro area and regional Victoria. Checking coverage for your site? The locations page lists every area we service. Those three answers pick the machine. Call 0457 000 637, email info@crane2u.com.au, or send the quote form with the work, the site conditions, and how long you need it, and we will nominate the right equipment.
