The C2U Difference – Qualified Welders

Here at Crane2U you’re not only getting qualified crane operators and riggers. Our team all have another ticket in their back pocket. They’re qualified welders! When they’re not lifting in the Franna AT20, you can almost guarantee that they’re keeping themselves warm on the welder.

So how does years of welding experience complement a crane operator you ask? Well here’s a few reasons:

  • Understanding of Structural Integrity: As welders we have a sound understanding of how metal structures are joined, the stresses they can withstand, and where potential weak points might exist. As crane operators this assists us when lifting and moving a wide range of steel structures.
  • Fabrication Knowledge: Crane operators often deal with lifting pre-fabricated components (see image of the large steel column one of our fabricators was welding up this week). A welding background helps us understand how these parts were constructed, their weight distribution, and any specific handling requirements needed.
  • Troubleshooting and Repairs: While a crane operator isn’t typically expected to perform welding repairs, a basic understanding of welding can help to identify issues with the structure they might be lifting. We have the ability to better identify potential fatigue cracks near welded areas, which on some jobs may need to be flagged for the safety of the lift. Alternatively we can offer the service back at our workshop to fix said structures if need be. Or potentially on site welding services depending on the site rules and regulations.
  • Safety Awareness: We’ve all heard it before “she’ll be right mate”. At Crane2U we’re professionals not cowboys. Being quite literally hands on with steel structures day in day out, we can see what others may not, cracks, imbalances, poor welds (tacks, minimal penetration etc). Our focus is not only on the lift itself, but on the structures we’re handling, make hiring us one of the safest options for your lift. It might not be right, but our team can assist you in making it so.
  • Improved Communication with Welders/Fabricators: When coordinating lifts for a welding or fabrication project, an operator with welding knowledge can better understand the needs of the welders, the sequence of assembly, and the precise positioning required for successful welds.

So there you have it, looking for a crane hire service in Bacchus Marsh and surrounds. Potentially need an onsite welder as well to fix a structure. At Crane2U we’re here to help and have the skills to do so, give us a call.
